Bliss Community Centre

Picture
The majority of kids from these classes are sponsored kids. I love playing my part in improving their lifestyle as well as the tutorials, feedings and funding provided by the charity.

The Junior Club, so far it's only been girls aged 8-12, we're doing a pretty girly dance to Rocky Robin right now so that suits me well. All the community centre classes take place on a Saturday, the benefit of them all being my neighbours means chances for extra rehersals!

Boys Club, high school aged boys, all lovely but in need of discipline! For the Christmas performance I have joint their class with the Girls Club, who have been fantastic at calling extra rehearsals at any chance. I'm more than happy to lend them my ipod for the night whilst they practice.

Girls Club, again high school aged. Lovely and very talented. Right now I have 6 girls and 6 boys committed enough to turn up every week and so they will be performing "They don't really care about us" by Michael Jackson at our Christmas party. Watch this space for a youtube link!

Dumpsite Kids

All these children are sponsored kids hand picked from the dump site. It is our aim to convince them to stay away from the ways of the dump site by paying for their school fees and giving regular donations of money and necessities. I teach in this small class room every Saturday morning with the intention of keeping them away from the dump site for atleast one morning every week.

RRCY

This is a residential home for young offenders. All male aged 16-23, their crimes vary as do their sentences. What ever their past may be, they are all lovely. I have no doubt that it was their background and severe lack of money and guidance that landed them in trouble. I am so proud of them for the dance they performed with me just recently.
I will continue to work with them two mornings a week focusing on improving discipline, team work, focus and sense of achievement.

Day Care

I have been introduced to 5 day care centres in my area. Here school rarely comes free, however these day care centres for 3 and 4 year olds are government funded meaning that poorer families get this early schooling for free. I have a total of 6 classes at 5 different centres.

Home for Girls

Picture
I have to be careful about publicizing this institute too much, it is a residential establishment for girls aged 10-20 who have faced some sort of abuse, they are in their mainly for their own protection. Out of all the the placements I have worked with or visited I have become most attached to this one. They are in severe need of love and compassion. Due to a slight relapse regarding my appendectomy, I wasn't able to dance with them but instead I conducted singing and drama classes.

Burayan Autistic Centre

I fell in love with this project as soon as I heard about it, a local doctor and her husband set up the school following the diagnosis of their own son and realizing there was no school closer than Manila that could cater for children with special needs. It began in a small apartment and with the help of donations (and lots of prayers, I'm told ) two years ago they managed to build this wonderful school which currently has 20 pupils from toddler right up to adults. Fees are according to families earnings, meaning that there are some poorer children who recieve this schooling for free. My first request to them was if I could paint the concrete walls, they had never been able to afford paint and since my family had donated money to me as a Christmas present I decided I wanted to some of the money on this. On Dec 23rd and 24th I recruited other volunteers and local boys and girls from my community and spent two full days painting.
